Simon Defends Bucharest Title

French second seed Gilles Simon boosted his chances of Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai qualification after successfully defending his BCR Open Romania title with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over No. 6 seed Carlos Moya.
The 23-year-old Simon now improves to an 11-1 record in Bucharest, having defeated home favorite Victor Hanescu in the final last year.
It is the third title of the season for Simon, who is enjoying a career-best campaign. His title run this week takes his match record to 40-20 (12-6 on clay), establishing a new personal-best season match wins total (35-26 in 2007).
